Sammendrag
TBT is a pollution problem along the Norwegian coast. Marine organisms seem to be the most sensible to this environmental pollutant. Effects on the population level have been detected for Dog whelks. There are fjords and harbours with levels so high that they pose a threat to human health. A lot of places had high levels of TBT in blue mussels even though this was not reflected in the local sediment. Also remote areas far from point sources had high levels of TBT in blue mussels. Thus it seems that polluted sediments is a less problem compared to diffuse sources and the contamination of the water column. Seaqueen, a antifouling agent used by the Defense seem to be an environmental friendly alternative to TBT due to the lower bioaccumulation potential for the compounds present in this agent.
